“MoM-Matters of Matter: future materials in Science Education” è un progetto Erasmus+ KA2 “solo scuole”, durato 3 anni (Settembre 2014 Agosto 2017). E’ stata una esperienza esaltante ed arrichente per tutti. New Glasshouse for Ireland

St. Joseph’s Secondary school is committed to becoming a greener more sustainable school. Thanks to finding from MOM, the school has purchased a glasshouse which it aims to turn into a “smart” glasshouse. Students are currently finalising the plants that will be grown in the glasshouse for use around the school and in the local community. They are also working on temperature sensors which will control the opening and closing of the windows and door of the glasshouse depending on the internal temperature.

MOM wall for Ireland

With the growing amount of students work as part of MOM it was decided in St. Joseph’s Secondary school, Drogheda, Ireland that a “MOM wall” would be created. The “MOM wall” is located on a busy corridor of the school outside of the Physics Lab. The wall features student reports and photos from mobilities to Portugal, Germany and Italy, which are created on A0 posters. It also features the poster that was presented as the ESERA conference in Dublin. The most recent additions to the wall are A0 posters of the Thermochromic phone case and the Eco Hot Box which are available as didactical materials from the project.

MOM attends ESERA 2017

From the 21st – 25th of August 2017 Irish Coordinator Damien McDonagh represented MOM at the annual European Science Education Research Association (ESERA) conference. This years conference was held in the helix in Dublin. A lot of interest was expressed in MOM throughout the week by other presenters and scientists attending the conference.

MoM @ Didacta Italia

MoM project at Didacta Italia 2017. In the context of the taechers seminar organized by Scientix and Indire, one of the activities developed within MoM project was presented in a 1 hour hands-on workshop: Home labs &flipped Physics with Arduino and low cost sensors.

Scientix is the European platform for Science teachers (http://www.scientix.eu/). Together with professional development for teachers and a huge archive of all Science education projects completed so far , both european and national (but all supported by public fun) Scientix is first of all a teachers’ community operating also through its ambassadors who are committed to the project disseminationa and to Science education innovation in general. MoM overnational coordinators is one of them.

MOM in Papenburg

During the Erasmus-Mobility in Papenburg in march 2016 the stundets from all four countries have tried out diffrent experiments, which can be used in a science show. For example a group of students has demonstrated the fire protection of a highly porous mateial, called “Aerogel”. Other groups have worked with memory metals, materials for latent heat storages, conductive paint or superabsorbent materials.

Science-Show 2016 in Papenburg

Over 500 hundred pupils from primary school around papenburg have visited the science show at the Gymnasium Papenburg. Different spectactular experiments have been presented by the students in three shows in december 2016.The studnets have for example worked with liquid nitrogen and other special materials.

IIS Cavazzi/sez. Liceo Scientifico – a science focused high school (14-19)- offers to host short jobshadowing in the period from Dec 2017 to May 2019

We have been working in science based international projects since 2006 (see http://www.cavazzisorbelli.it/content/progettifisica). We have been the coordinating school of a 3 years (2014-2017) Erasmus+ KA2 project “MoM Matters of Matter: Future materials in Science Education “focusing on new materials and how to use them to enhance IBSE and PBL and innovate Science and Physics curricula at high school. MoM is a “from teachers – for teachers” project and aims to disseminate best practices of Materials Science among the teachers’ community.

MoM was awarded the EU STEM Teacher Prize at Science on Stage 2017 Debrecen HU

A highly rated Teachers International Summer School was held at the end of the project with the participation of teachers & student teachers from all over EU.

All the lab protocols and didactical materials will be freely downloadable from the website.

To ensure sustainability to the project results we will be happy to host Science Physics and Technology teachers for jobshadowing (from one week to one month) at our school. We will bring you in our classes to observe the implementation of MoM protocols and will be happy to train you in the different odidactical activities of the project.

For short periods hosting at teachers’ homes may be possible.
