Eco-friendly Domotic Home: a mix between tradition, innovation and new materials

This project consists in a prototype of a domotic home in the scale 1:20. A mix between tradition, innovation, and environmental sustainability.

At the base of all there’s a “skeleton” realized using recycled wood from an old box of CDs.
Other materials have been bought just for the furniture (fully realized by hand, with an hacksaw and PVA glue). Many esthetic details have been realized such as the swimming-pool, the table, the chairs, the sofas, because we think that to go on in the future you’ll need a solid and traditional starting base. Furthermore, esthetic is anyway an important point in projects, even if it’s subordinated to the central idea.
Under this simplicity, there’s an Arduino UNO that controls a lot of functions and components at the same time. We decided that driving the home by an app that uses Bluetooth connection with an Android smartphone was an idea that, even if already seen, was however simply and effective. But our idea had to be more innovative: so we’ve designed and programmed an app that recognizes your voice, send the command to Arduino, and make it executing the request.
A LED has been fixed in every room to simulate the lamps, there are some modalities of power saving, the garage and the entrance door open themselves automatically when you say “hello”,
a RGB LED changes every color fading between red, green and blue in the swimming-pool ambient, an advanced alarm system could be deactivated only pronouncing a precise password; has been also implemented the musical reproduction of some electronically melodies: these are just the mean features of the project.
Fixed on the ground of the swimming-pool there are some photoluminescent mosaics that can absorb the light during the day, and release it in the night. In this mode, you don’t need to turn on lights and consume energy. These mosaics with the RGB LED, create a magic and romantic atmosphere all around the swimming-pool, an incredible luminescent effect.
In this years two problems that people and medias everyday talk about are pollution and energetic fonts. We have decided to don’t underestimate neither these two aspects, because this prototype represents a model of agitation of the future: 24 photovoltaic panels have been fixed all around the external wall of the house to power Arduino and in the meantime a battery supplier, to store energy to used when there’s no light.

The environmental impact can be considered null: our habitat is the first house to protect.
